With a prominent frame of mature woodland as a backdrop, the garden is designed to accentuate the beautiful light and shadow play that the forest creates on the site. A dense, tall wave of yew grounds the woodland to the garden, while playful plantings of azalea, boxwood, and grasses provide rich layers of texture, giving the garden visual depth. Hedges of boxwood and strips of ornamental grasses frame the various living areas, connecting these spaces to the green border beyond. The generous lawn is interrupted only by a single specimen maple tree, giving order but calmness to the space. Large areas of pavement are broken up with plantings of thyme, further connecting the outdoor living areas to the green of the forest.
