The Cantonal Museum of Fine Arts (MCBA) defines a new urban space which establishes a symbolic dialogue with the industrial railway history of the site. This symbolic linkage is expressed both in the design of the outdoor spaces, where old train rails are preserved, and the building itself, which incorporates part of the ancient locomotive hall. The three-storey building is characterized by a monolithic and elongated silhouette with vast interior spaces free of columns. In order to comply with the architectural design, the structure consists of large-span prefabricated slabs supported by prestressed concrete deep beams.
