Kodai and Associates is a Zurich-based architecture and design studio working at the intersection of Swiss precision and Japanese sensibility. Our practice creates thoughtful, cohesive environments where architecture, interiors, and gardens form a seamless dialogue rooted in place, culture, and human connection.

We approach each project as a living narrative—whether a cultural institution, private residence, office or crafted detail—balancing clarity, craftsmanship, and material depth. Our work reflects a philosophy of Gesamtkunstwerk, where architecture, art, and landscape are conceived as one.

Inspired by Kyoto’s traditions, we see gardens and outdoor spaces not as accessories but as living environments that express time, seasonality, and the relationship between structure and nature.

We prioritise materials with meaningful provenance, such as Yoshino wood from Japan, cultivated through centuries of regenerative forestry. By supporting these traditions and introducing them into new contexts, we aim to foster cultural continuity, environmental care, and future-oriented design.

From Zurich, we collaborate internationally across Switzerland, Europe, and Japan—crafting spaces that are timeless, human-scaled, and profoundly connected to their context.
