Time Travel of a 1970s House
The mission for the renovation of the two-family house in Küsnacht was clearly defined from the beginning: The client wanted to transform the house from a two-family to a single-family home through a comprehensive renovation. It should be modern and environmentally friendly without completely losing its original character. The ecological aspect was especially important during the renovation.
Raumtakt's building renovations have a high standard for the environmental friendliness of a house. The architectural firm also aims to meet the budget constraints of the client at all times. For the house in Küsnacht, a phased five-year plan for the overall renovation was established. In this main project, the house was renovated, and additional aspects for an environmentally friendly solution will be added later. This approach allowed Raumtakt to create a sustainable house with energy-efficient measures.
But what does "future-proof" mean? In the first phase of the project, a building physicist was also engaged to help evaluate environmentally friendly products. As a result, the roof was insulated with cellulose flakes made from recycled paper. Triple insulation was also used for the windows. Raumtakt's plan now includes drilling geothermal wells in five years and using this technology for a new heating system.
There were clear requirements for the house, such as the kitchen, which should be semi-open, the number of rooms, and the access to the large living room. Several openings in the house, as well as custom solutions with a carpenter, were made to meet these requirements.
The two-family house was designed and built in 1976 by the architect Franz Jung, the son of Carl Gustav Jung."
