Since 1958, the gondola between Jschalp and the Jakobshorn summit in the Davos-Kloster ski resort has been in operation. As part of the renovation work on the second section of Jakobshorn in 2022, pfeffermint was commissioned to develop a new overall appearance for the middle and mountain stations.
In the course of renewing the cable car and maintaining the mountain station, accessibility for people with disabilities will be improved. Additionally, modifications to the entire structure will be made in accordance with fire safety regulations. Furthermore, the mountain station will receive an escape ladder on the west side, a command room, and interim storage for goods. New solar panels will ensure the use of renewable energy at the stations.
Initially, the pfeffermint team examined the guidance of guests and optimized guest navigation from the valley to the summit through various spatial interventions. Additionally, a design concept for new signage and building lettering, as well as a color concept for the spacious areas, was developed. The result is a unified design for passenger corridors, waiting halls, and directional signs.
Renovating at an altitude of 2,590 meters presents a logistical challenge, as only a small time window between the summer and winter seasons is available for construction work.
