In a mature residential area near Freiburg, the concept for a colourful conversion of a freestanding dwelling house has arisen to the plans of Studio Hans. The unusual room layout of the house, which was originally built for a vet and included a practice, and the wanderlust of the owners became the thread for the redesign concept. Thus arose a game with perception, which brings the character of the rooms to the surface using simple interventions. Instead of a classic entrance area that serves as a distributor to the other rooms, the visitor is surprised with an expansive jungle situation in dark shades. The courage to use colour shows itself throughout the ground floor where the public areas of the house are found. Along with the jungle, the open kitchen is the centre of the house. The play of contrasts and the conscious use of polychromy is also shown here. The dark blue of the kitchen exhibits a beautiful interplay with the warm wood tones of the cupboard doors and is completed by the furniture selection. Depending on the perspective, the colours and shapes overlay each other and give new compositions in the room. For the private living areas, the planners chose the motif of down time. Sand-coloured floors and light-blue walls make associations with a beach day, while light, naturally-coloured textiles and selected furniture complement the room.
The particular highlight is the use of the LS 990 range from JUNG in Les Couleurs® Le Corbusier, which integrates perfectly into the contrast-rich room concept with its reduced shape and colouring. The colours of the walls and the light switches and sockets pick up individual colours from the colour concept of Le Corbusier. In this way, expressive, strong colours and materials interchange with a muted background, and subtle details correspond with sculptural and eccentric individual pieces. Particularly where the complementary colours meet in their properties as wall colour and switch, there is a compounding effect that lights up the whole room. In contrast to this, the switches disappear in other locations like in a camouflage effect with the two-dimensionality of the wall.
