Armin Baumann completed his apprenticeship as a structural draftsman in Thun with Müller & Messerli Architekten, after which he completed his A-levels at the Bernese Maturitätsschule für Erwachsene (BME) while working. After graduating in architecture from ETH Zurich in 2004, he worked for two years as an architect in Zurich at Blaser & Ramseier Architekten und Planer and went into self-employment, moving to Gigon Guyer Architekten as an architect and project manager in 2007. Armin Baumann has been working as a project manager at Boltshauser Architekten since 2011. He has been a part of the Leadership Board since 2017.

Markus Boltshauser

After completing an apprenticeship at Maurer + Hotz Architekten in Adliswil, Markus Boltshauser worked for two years as a structural draftsman at Suter & Suter Architekten and four years at Löwensberg & Pfister Architekten in Zurich. While working, he completed the evening technical course in architecture and the HPF construction management school. In 1993, he took up a job as site manager at Entrée Architekten und Ingenieure in Adliswil, before setting up his own architectural and site management business in Bütschwil in 1995. Between 2003 and 2006, he worked as a project manager, cost planner and site manager at Boltshauser Architekten and Bau AG Baumanagement in Zurich. In Chon Buri, Thailand, he worked from 2006 to 2007 in consulting (costs + deadlines) at Siam Royal View in the planning and execution department before becoming director of the total contracting company Kamuthee Ltd. in Chon Buri and Koh Chang. He returned to Boltshauser Architekten in 2008, where he has been working in cost planning and consulting ever since. From 2017 to 2024 he was a member of the Board of Directors and since 2024 he has been part of the Leadership Board.

Roger Boltshauser

Roger Boltshauser graduated from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH) in 1995 and founded Boltshauser Architekten AG in Zurich the following year. Currently, a team of around 75 employees works on projects in all phases, from competition and study commission to project planning and implementation planning up to and including cost management and construction management. In addition to the main office in Zurich, a second office was opened in Munich in 2021.
In addition to his practice, he was a research assistant at the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture (gta) from 1996 to 1998 and a teaching assistant at the chair of Peter Märkli at ETH Zurich and EPFL Lausanne from 1997 and 1999. Between 2004 and 2010 he was engaged as a lecturer for design at the University of Applied Sciences Chur (HTW) and between 2005 and 2009 at the master degree course at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences (DIA) and Chur Institute of Architecture (CIA). From 2016 to 2017 he was a guest professor at EPFL Lausanne and from 2017 to 2018 at TU Munich. Since 2018 he is a lecturer at ETH Zurich.
From 2012 to 2018, he was a member of the City of Lucerne's Building Committee (Stadtbaukommission), from 2018 to 2022 he has was part of the City of Zurich's Building Council (Baukollegium), and since 2022 he has been a member of the Building Committee (Baukollegium) in Berlin.
For their work Boltshauser Architekten have been awarded the ‘Fritz Höger Preis für Backstein-Architektur’ (Berlin), the ‘Ernst A. Plischke Preis’ (Vienna), the ‘Das beste Haus’ by the ‘Bund Österreichischer Architekten’ (Vienna), the ‘Fassa Bortolo International Award for Sustainable Architecture’ (Venice), the ‘Materialpreis’ (Stuttgart) and several times the title ‘best architects’ (Düsseldorf). In 2022, Boltshauser Architekten received the ‘DETAIL-Award’ for the Kiln Tower for the Brickworks Museum and the ‘ARC-Award’ in the ‘Education and Health’ category.

Markus Durrer

After an apprenticeship as a civil engineering draftsman at Fietz AG in Zurich and another as a bricklayer at Locher & Cie in Zurich, Markus Durrer trained as a construction foreman in structural engineering with a diploma from the Swiss Association of Master Builders (SBV) in Sursee. He worked as a bricklayer and foreman at Locher & Cie from 1996 to 1997, as a foreman and site manager at Kellersberger in Wädenswil from 1997 to 2000 and at Marty Nova Bau in Adliswil from 2000 to 2003. This was followed by training as a construction manager for building construction with a federal certificate in Zurich and employment as a construction manager at IG Innenarchitektur und Gastroplanung and as a project manager and site manager at Verit Immobilien in Zurich. From 2010 to 2014, Markus Durrer studied architecture part-time at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) while working as a project manager at Boltshauser Architekten. He has been a part of the Leadership Board since 2017.

Show Biography
Mark Inderbitzin graduated in architecture from ETH Zurich in 2008 and then worked at SLIK Architekten in Zurich before taking up a position as an architect at Stoos Architekten in Brugg. He has been an architect and project manager at Boltshauser Architekten since 2010, a member of the Leadership Board since 2017 and Co-Head of the Leadership Board since 2024.

Sophie Kotter

Show Biography
After completing her bachelor's degree in architecture at the Bauhaus University in Weimar with a semester abroad at the École nationale supérieure d'architecture et de paysage in Lille, Sophie Kotter moved to the Technical University of Munich (TUM) for her master's degree with a semester abroad at the École Polytechnique Fédérale (EPF) in Lausanne. From 2018 to 2019, she worked as a freelancer before joining Boltshauser Architekten as an architect in 2019. In the summer semester of 2021, she worked as an academic assistant at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart. In the summer semester 2024 she has a teaching assignment for construction at the Münster School of Architecture - together with Matthias Peterseim. From 2021 to 2023 she was an assistant at Studio Boltshauser at ETH Zurich, since 2021 she has been a member of the Executive Board, since 2024 part of the Leadership Board of Boltshauser Architektur GmbH in Munich.

Matthias Peterseim

Show Biography
Matthias Peterseim completed his architecture degree at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) with a year of study at the Università degli Studi Roma Tre in Rome. In 2020, his study portfolio was awarded the Senator Bernhard Borst Prize. Since 2021, he has been working at Boltshauser Architekten, where he is Head of project development. In the summer semester 2024, he has a teaching assignment for construction at the Münster School of Architecture - together with Sophie Kotter. He is a research assistant at Studio Boltshauser at ETH Zurich and has been part of the Leadership Board at Boltshauser Architekten since 2024.

Beat Steuri

Show Biography
Beat Steuri completed an apprenticeship as a structural draftsman at Rüegg Architekten in Dielsdorf before studying architecture at the Technikum Winterthur (HTL). From 2001 to 2005, he worked as an architect at Weber Hofer Partner in Zurich. This was followed by his Master's degree at ETH Zurich, which he completed in 2007. He then worked for Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos in Madrid and Marcel Meili, Markus Peter Architekten in Zurich before joining Boltshauser Architekten as a project manager in 2009. He has been a part of the Leadership Board since 2017.

Mathias Stocker

Before studying architecture at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) in Winterthur, Mathias Stocker completed an apprenticeship as a structural draftsman at Erich Weber und Partner in Cham. He then worked as an architect at Adolf Krischanitz in Zurich and at Albi Nussbaumer Architekten in Zug before joining Boltshauser Architekten as a project manager in 2017. He has been a member of the Leadership Board since 2021 and took over as Co-Head of the Leadership Board in 2024.

After studying architecture at ETH Zurich in 1990, Markus Widmer worked for two years as an architect at Cabinet Pierre et Pascal Prunet in Paris. He returned to Basel in 1992 and worked as an architect and project manager at Mathis Müller & Ueli Müller Architekten. Two years later, he became project manager and deputy site architect at F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG in Basel. From 2000 to 2013, he was Head of Operations & Processes at Herzog & de Meuron, where he was a partner and member of the firm's Executive Board. In 2013, he became Head of Architecture and a member of the Executive Board at Rapp AG in Basel. He has been COO and a member of the Executive Board at Boltshauser Architekten since 2024.

He completed his apprenticeship as a structural draftsman with a vocational baccalaureate at Strebel Kiener Architekten in Schöftland. Between his part-time Bachelor's and Master's degree in architecture at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU), he worked for two years on a reconstruction project for residential and school buildings in Haiti. After graduating in 2018, he worked as an architect at Bachelard Wagner Architekten in Basel before joining Boltshauser Architekten as a project manager in 2021. He has been a member of the Leadership Board since 2024.
